ENTRY GUIDANCE: The following questions have been aligned to help you reveal how your design satisfies the criteria. Answer the questions and limit yourself to the number of words indicated for each question.

ADVICE: The word count shown is maximum. You will not be judged on how many words used, but on the quality of your design. Using the right words is more important than lots of words that say little or repeat a lot.

THE JUDGES DO NOT SEE THE NAMES OF THE DESINGERS OR THEIR COMPANIES.SCHOOLS AND LOCATIONS IN ORDER TO GIVE EVERYONE A FAIR CHANCE: Therefore, do not place the name of the designer or design team, or the location, school or workplace, in your answers or on your visuals. You entry will be disqualified if you do not follow this rule. Your submission form will have your contact information and this information will be removed from the material seen by the judges. The system will retain a record of the complete entry so you can be tracked with your design. Please don’t risk disqualification by providing names in your answers or visuals.

ENTRY QUESTIONS

CONCEPT SUMMARY (300 words): Please provide a description of your design, its purpose, unique features and value. Consider including:
  • What is its context of use and the problem your design solves?
  • Who is the user and what are their characteristics and needs?
  • How does it function?
  • What advantage(s) does it provide?
INNOVATION (300 words): How does the design innovatively address the opportunity you identified? How does the innovation create new value?
APPROPRIATE AESTHETICS (300 words): How do the aesthetics support the opportunity and design goal? What were the determining factors for the form, color, texture, scale, etc.? How do the aesthetics support the user experience and respond to research findings?
ESTIMATE THE SIZE AND WEIGHT OF YOUR DESIGN:
OPPORTUNITY IDENTIFICATION & RESEARCH (300 words): Explain the research methodology used to understand the food preparation experience. What are the cultural, economic and lifestyle facets that the research has exposed and what is the product opportunity your research revealed? How did your research inspire and guide your design direction and decisions?
USER EXPERIENCE (300 words): Describe the characteristics of the intended user and how they live. How does the design enhance the food preparation experience? How does it satisfy the human element, from safety and fit to cost and cultural appropriateness?
MANUFACTURABILITY (300 words): Explain how the concept would be manufactured, of what material(s) and why these choices support the design concept? Specifically address how you have minimized environmental impact and enhanced manufacturing efficiency and product quality with your design.

ENTRY VISUALS

Required images: The designer or design team’s name must not appear on any of the visuals

  • Up to 7 high res .jpgs (300dpi, 1200 X 1500 pixels)
  • Please include one product .jpg without text (it is the “glamour” shot if published)
  • Other images can include text and be presented as a storyboard

UPLOAD FILES

Submit up to seven .jpgs in high resolution (300dpi, 1200 x1500 pixels). One photo needs to be your glamour shot, the one you’d like to see published if you win. Please do not include your name, design team or company name on any of your visuals. Other images can have captions or be presented like storyboards. (Images MUST be in RGB format. CMYK will not be accepted).
